How to Complete the SFPS Volunteer Application and Background Check

Applies to: Providers and staff entering Santa Fe Public Schools (SFPS) campuses
Required for: Any in-person services at SFPS school sites

Santa Fe Public Schools requires all individuals entering school buildings to complete a volunteer application and associated background check before services can begin.


Step 1: Access the SFPS Volunteer Application

Start the volunteer application using the SFPS portal:

The application opens with general instructions and reminders to:

  • Complete all required fields

  • Use accurate information that matches your identification

  • Provide a valid email address for follow-up communication


Step 2: Complete the Personal Information Section

You will be asked to enter:

  • Legal first, middle, and last name

  • Address, city, state, and ZIP code

  • Date of birth

  • Phone number

  • Email address

  • Affiliation

  • Preferred language

All fields marked as required must be completed to continue.


Step 3: Select School Site(s)

You will be prompted to select the SFPS school or schools where you plan to enter or provide services.


Step 4: Select Volunteer Functions

Choose the applicable volunteer functions or roles.
These selections indicate the type of activities you will be performing while on campus.


Step 5: Organization (If Applicable)

If you are volunteering or entering on behalf of an organization, you may select it from the list.
If this does not apply, select the appropriate option to continue.


Step 6: Review and Acknowledge Required Agreements

The application includes required acknowledgements covering:

  • Confidentiality expectations

  • Volunteer responsibilities

  • Consent for background check review

  • Authorization for SFPS to verify information

You must review and agree to these statements to proceed.


Step 7: Provide SSN and Electronic Signature

Before submitting the application, you will be asked to:

  • Enter your Social Security Number

  • Confirm your Social Security Number

  • Provide an electronic signature acknowledging the information provided


Step 8: Submit the Application

Once submitted, you will see a confirmation screen indicating the application was successfully received.

SFPS will follow up directly regarding any required background check steps and approval status.


Step 9: Complete the Required Background Check

After submitting the SFPS volunteer application, you must complete the required fingerprint-based background check before entering any Santa Fe Public Schools campus.

Background Check Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Register Online to Get Fingerprinted
Access the online registration form from the SFPS background check page.
Enter the service code 2BH18N for volunteering with SFPS and click Get Started.

Non-New Mexico residents should select Mail in Physical Fingerprint Card under the Additional Services section, then enter the same service code and click Get Started.

Step 2: Confirm Enrollment Service Lookup
Confirm the following identifiers on the Enrollment Service Lookup page:

  • Agency Fingerprint Reason: 22 10 3 3 SCHOOL EMPLOYMENT

  • Agency ORI: NM931140Z

  • Service Code: 2BH18N

Once all identifiers are confirmed, click Start Enrollment.

Step 3: Accept the Authorization Form
Review and accept the Fingerprint-Based Criminal History Record Request Authorization and Notification Form, then click Continue.

Step 4: Enter Personal Information
Complete all required fields marked with an asterisk.
Information entered must match your government-issued identification, including your full legal name and date of birth.
A Social Security Number is not required.
Review your application for accuracy and click Continue to Payment.

Step 5: Schedule Fingerprinting Appointment
Enter your ZIP code to view available fingerprinting locations.
Select a location, date, and time.
DPS locations are recommended for the best fingerprinting results.

Step 6: Payment and Confirmation
Pay the required processing fee of $59.00 and submit your registration.
After payment, you will receive a confirmation email.

Bring the following to your appointment:

  • Registration confirmation number

  • Government-issued photo ID

Additional Background Check Options

You may use the registration portal to manage or reschedule an existing appointment or to schedule a fingerprint reprint appointment using your UEID, which is provided in your confirmation email.


Important Notes

  • Completion of this process is required before entering SFPS campuses

  • All communication and next steps will come directly from SFPS using the email address provided

  • Approval is managed by Santa Fe Public Schools, not Finni
