When E-Verify is Down: Manager's Guide
Last updated: October 6, 2025
During an E-Verify system outage, you may be unable to create new cases or resolve existing ones. Here's a quick guide on how to proceed without delaying your team's work.
1. Continue with Business as Usual
Don't delay start dates. New employees can still begin work on their scheduled first day.
Complete Form I-9 as usual. Ensure the I-9 is filled out correctly and on time—within three business days of the employee's start date.
Confirm identification and approved documents in-person or via Google Meet/Zoom.
Upload your documents in Rippling. Please continue to upload documents to Rippling during the outage so you can create their E-Verify cases once the system is back online.
2. Handling Existing Cases
Tentative Nonconfirmations (TNCs): If an employee has a TNC, do not take any action (like termination or suspension) while the system is down. The time limit for them to resolve it will be extended.
Stay Informed: We will monitor the USCIS E-Verify page for updates. As soon as the system is available, we will notify you and provide instructions on how to proceed with any delayed cases.
Key Takeaway: The E-Verify outage will not affect employee start dates or your ability to complete the Form I-9. Simply document new hires and pending cases, and the Finni HR Team will handle the E-Verify process once the system is restored.
